WMW Jamaica facilitated a two-and-a-half training for National Coordinators of the Caribbean region, who will be organizing for GMMP activities in their respective Countries. 

The training was held in Kingston, on March 11-13th with representation from 10 English speaking and one Spanish speaking Caribbean countries (Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St Vincent, Suriname, Trinidad& Tobago and Cuba).

This two-and-a-half day training workshop was devised to update and prepare the National Coordinators for GMMP 2015.The training was led by Gender Specialist, Hilary Nicholson with support from Georgia Love of WMW Jamaica.  Over the three days, participants received chockfullinformation on how to monitor the media using a gender lens, and why media monitoring and analysis matters.  The training workshop was made possible with financial support from Women’s World Day of Prayer (WWDP) and technical support from WACC Global.

Participants came away with a high level of confidence in their ability to train their local country team of GMMP volunteers in the GMMP research methodology. Participants gave the training a rating of 80% to 100% for overall effectiveness.

GMMP, a flagship activity of WACC Global, takes place across the globe every five years to monitor the representation of men and women in the news media.  Since the inception in 1995 volunteers in more than 120 countries have participated in this unique news media research and advocacy initiative.
